The Philippines will host a global webinar this Wednesday night, November 26, on building disaster management partnerships. Hosted by the Professionals in Humanitarian Assistance and Protection (PHAP) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), the live online event is scheduled at 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Philippine time.

Building more effective partnerships with private sector actors is an important part of improving disaster preparedness, response, and recovery in many contexts. We invite you to an interactive online discussion on this topic on 26 November, focusing on how business organizes itself in preparing for and responding to emergencies.

Part of the World Humanitarian Summit consultations on “The Power of Business in Emergencies,” the online event will take place one week before the Asia Regional Business Consultation in Bangkok on 2 December. The online event will seek to explore and capture private sector perspectives on how the business community can coordinate itself to engage more systematically in support of emergency preparedness and response, in complement to and in partnership with governments and humanitarian organizations. Key points from the online discussion will be brought to the table at the Asia Regional Business Consultation in Bangkok, which will be co-hosted by PDRF, ADP, and OCHA, and which supports the Summit consultative process.

The guest speakers will discuss the importance of partnership across sectors to support preparedness, response, and recovery. They will look at various models and leading practices in the Philippines, in the Asia-Pacific region, and globally. The interactive discussion will look at both challenges and opportunities, and seek to collect best practice and lessons learned from a wide audience.

Speakers will include Stuart Reid, Trustee of The Partnering Initiative (TPI); Samantha Penabad, Strategy Consultant with Accenture Development Partnerships (ADP); and Rene “Butch” Meily, President of the Philippines Disaster Recovery Foundation (PRDF).
