The Capital Regional District (CRD) is the regional government for 13 municipalities and three electoral areas on southern Vancouver Island and the nearby Gulf Islands, serving more than 377,000 citizens.
Governed by a 24-member Board of Directors and supported by more than 75 committees and commissions, the CRD provides regional decision-making on issues that transcend municipal boundaries. It is administered by the Chief Administrative Officer and an executive team of other officers appointed by the Board who are delegated various responsibilities and authorities.
As a local government and shared services provider, the CRD develops partnerships to facilitate and deliver projects and services that benefit municipalities, electoral areas, First Nations and the region as a whole.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
