India
News and Media

Mission

The Chenab Times is an independent, multilingual digital news platform established in 2017 in Jammu & Kashmir, India. It delivers hyper-local, factual journalism from one of India’s most remote and disaster-prone mountainous regions while covering national and international developments. The platform amplifies marginalized voices, documents disaster events and recovery processes, promotes public awareness of risks and preparedness measures, and contributes to the preservation of endangered regional languages (Kashmiri, Gojri, Bhaderwahi, Sarazi, Poguli, and Padri).

DRR activities
  • Provides real-time reporting on floods, cloudbursts, landslides, avalanches, and other hazards affecting Chenab Valley and surrounding areas
  • Documents disaster impacts, relief efforts, and gaps in response to inform policymakers, humanitarian organizations, and researchers
  • Disseminates early warnings, safety guidelines, and preparedness information in multiple local languages during crises
  • Publishes investigative reports on infrastructure vulnerabilities that exacerbate disaster risk (roads, hydropower projects, schools, etc.)
  • Produces multimedia content (articles, videos, infographics) to raise community awareness of climate and disaster risks
  • Serves as an archival resource of disaster-related events and local resilience practices
  • Collaborates with civil society, local authorities, and DRR practitioners to highlight needs and solutions

Voluntary Commitments

The organization has no registered commitments.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
