Disaster Reduction Goal

Natural disaster management is one area where we employ our expertise to make a significant difference by helping our customers and communities to understand and protect themselves from risk. Through our flood resilience program we are partnering with leading humanitarian and academic organizations to enhance community flood resilience in thought and practice.

DRR activities
Policies and Programmes in DRR

- Making a tangible difference on the ground by scaling up efforts in reducing flood risks among vulnerable communities and enhancing effectiveness of disaster risk reduction solutions.
- Investigating and determining the causes of significant floods and the extent of related losses; and assessing the effectiveness of mitigation solutions and the gaps in flood risk management. Today's academic partners inlcude the Wharton School & IIASA.
- Working with selected humanitarian partner to deliver community level improvement programs in Indonesia, Mexico, Nepal and Peru. Today’s partners include the IFRC & Practical Action.
- Committing sizeable annual budgets through the Z Zurich Foundation to fund effective, high impact community flood resilience projects

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
