Source
University of Madras
ETH Zurich

This report shows key results and findings from a study about the recovery process in Chennai after the 2015 South Indian floods. Household data was collected ten months after the disaster in Mylapore and Velachery, two constituencies of Chennai.

The results highlight that the severity of the floods correlated with the time needed to recover. The findings also show that the recovery efforts led by the local and state authorities were appreciated by the affected local residents. Areas for improvement, including the need for more involvement of residents in the recovery planning process and needs assessment, were identified. Finally, the areas under study were built back better which indicated that the recovery process was positive.
