The Viet Nam multi-sector assessment (VMSA) report for Typhoon Yagi recovery

On September 7, 2024, Typhoon Yagi made landfall in northern Viet Nam, impacting over 3.6 million people across 26 provinces, leaving communities grappling with immense losses. This Multi-Sectoral Assessment for Recovery from Typhoon Yagi (VMSA) was conducted to assess the full extent of the impact of the typhoon and propose appropriate recommendations for sustainable recovery across all affected sectors.

The VMSA applied the internationally recognized “Post-Disaster Needs Assessment” (PDNA) methodology to evaluate the extent of damage, economic losses, and recovery needs across key sectors. The findings of this assessment are intended to support the Government of Viet Nam in planning the recovery and reconstruction process and help mobilize support for a more inclusive and disaster- and climate-resilient long-term recovery. The assessment also puts forward a series of recommendations set under three main pillars.
