Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana: building performance observations recommendations, and technical guidance

This report relates the findings of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Mitigation Assessment Team (MAT) who assessed the damage in Louisiana caused by Hurricane Issac in 2012. It is comprised of an executive summary and six chapters: (i) chapter one introduces the hurricane event, the disaster history of the region, and the objectives of the MAT; (ii) chapter two explains the building codes and floodplain management regulations at the time of the hurricane; (iii) chapter three reviews the wind and flood damage to residential buildings; (iv) chapter four reviews the condition of non-residential buildings and infrastructure; (v) chapter five reviews the conditions of elevated versus non-elevated buildings after the hurricane; (vi) chapter six contains building code and construction recommendations for securing a resilient future.
