Natural hazards in Bangladesh: studies in perception, impact and coping strategies

Source
Disaster Research Training and Management Centre

The present book is a collection of nine papers published over nearly three decades. The first one is a newspaper article on the 1976 tornado in former Faridpur district, Bangladesh. Another article published in 1991,is on the impact of river-bank erosion. As many as four articles deal with the 1998 flood in Dhaka city, particularly looking at the perception of people, their coping strategies and extent of damage in housing. The 2004 flood is covered in another short paper. One paper deals with the relationship of floods with urban settlements in general while yet another paper looks at natural disasters from a totally different perspective, such as from the perception of the artists in Bangladesh.
