Reconstruction of Sendai

This document is a summary of the experiences and lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake (GEJE) in Sendai City.

Sendai has tackled the recovery process since the region was hit by the most powerful earthquake and tsunami ever recorded in Japan. The earthquake preparedness measures put in place before GEJE had a definite effect during this recent disaster. Howeve new problems were also identified that should be resolved through the recovery process. Sendai is taking on the challenge of preparing new disaster prevention measures for the next disasters.
