This book offers recommendations and guidance to enhance the disaster resilience of the academic biomedical research community in the United States of America, with a special focus on the potential actions researchers, academic research institutions, and research sponsors can take to mitigate the impact of future disasters.

Chapters within the book assess the historic impact of disasters on the academic biomedical research community and define the functions and features of academic research institutions within the context of disaster resilience. The book outlines processes for building disaster resilience, including through community resilience and national preparedness plans, disaster risk management planning, and response and recovery. It contains special considerations for the disaster resilience within biomedical research community, including for animal research, the built environment, funding streams, and the essential role of research sponsors.
