This guide was published as a collaborative effort of ProVention, the World Bank's Hazard Management Unit, and the UN Capital Development Fund. It provides practical guidance on how to reduce the vulnerability of Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) to disaster impacts as well as to more effectively support the recovery of their clients in the aftermath of a natural disaster. Organised as a series of exercises and references to tools to assist MFIs to plan and implement a disaster management strategy, the guidebook outlines specific methods for the assessment of risk, institutional and client preparedness, and emergency responseand recovery for MFIs and their clients. To help MFIs implement disaster management strategies, it provides references to web-based tools and guidelines.
