Volunteers and disaster reduction

This document presents volunteers' activities in preventing and reducing vulnerability to natural disasters, as an effective support system in the wake of a disaster, and in post-disaster reconstruction efforts. It also features the need to factor volunteerism into national policies and programmes through the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster and the Great Hanshin-Awaji earthquake examples.
