Mission

National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience promotes diverse research with the basic objective of “realizing resilient society to natural disasters by enhancing science and technology for disaster risk reduction”. Science and technology for disaster risk reduction referred to here means properly understanding and predicting what will occur, preemptively preventing disasters, stopping damage from cascading, and realizing recovery and rehabilitation from disasters. 

防災科学技術研究所は、「防災科学技術を向上させることで災害に強い社会を実現する」という基本目標のもと、幅広い研究を推進しています。ここでいう防災科学技術とは、何が起きるかをしっかり理解して予測し、災害を未然に防止し、被害の拡大を食い止め、災害からの復旧・復興を実現する科学技術を指します。

国立研究開発法人防災科学技術研究所は、令和6年能登半島地震を対象に、自治体の災害対応および応援受援活動の全国調査を行ってまいりました。調査から得られた成果のご報告と、それらを踏まえた、将来の国難災害に向けたわが国の災害対応の改善課題や今後に求められる研究について、有識者や災害対応の現場を担う行政職員とともに議論するシンポジウムを開催します。

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
