Reconstructing Haiti
This briefing note advocates for a sustained international reconstruction effort which will effectively translate into a new start for Haiti, and which would meet the country’s long-term development needs. It particularly calls to integrate disaster risk reduction in all reconstruction projects, meeting high standards for reconstruction, and investing in disaster preparedness capacities of the government and local organisations.
It gives overall recommendations for the government, United Nations, donors and other actors to focus on the humanitarian and reconstruction needs of the communities of Haiti affected by the 7.3 magnitude earthquake in January 12, 2010. It also advocates for the coordination mechanisms to be strengthen and for the security and safety of the most vulnerable to be addressed.
