Empowering women in the green economic recovery from Covid-19

Organizer(s) Climate and Development Knowledge Network
Date

An official side event at the NGO Forum of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66) 2022

Monday 21 March, 14:00 - 15:30 UTC

Co-hosted by the Climate and Development Knowledge Network and Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC)

Covid-19 knocked an estimated $3 trillion off global economic output in 2020, cast a ‘long shadow’ over developing economies, and erased decades of women’s economic gains.  International financial institutions and governments are pledging a recovery that’s green and socially inclusive, but can they live up to the rhetoric? How can recovery measures boost women’s economic empowerment?

A new IDRC initiative, Gender Equality in a Low Carbon World will present promising women-led solutions for green economies and climate action at this event – including innovations in agriculture, forestry, land restoration and tourism.

In an interactive audience segment, you’ll have the chance to pose questions to the speakers and tell us your key insights for promoting a greener, more gender-equal economy.

Speakers include:

Laure Tall - IPAR, Senegal

Jessica Kampanje - Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Malawi

Joyce Njoloma - ICRAF, Malawi

Lykke Andersen - Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), Bolivia

And moderation by Mairi Dupar - CDKN and ODI
