About National Conference for Promoting Disaster Risk Reduction (Bosai Kokutai)
The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 recognizes the importance of self-help and mutual support (all-of-society engagement) in disaster risk reduction. The National Council for Promoting Disaster Risk Reduction was established in Japan based on these principles. Since 2016, in partnership with the National Council for the Promotion of Disaster Prevention and the Council for Promoting Disaster Risk Reduction, the Cabinet Office has held the National Conference for Promoting Disaster Risk Reduction (Bosai Kokutai) every year to increase all citizens’ awareness of disaster risk reduction.

The year 2022 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Memorial Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution (DRI). It will be the main hub for this year’s National Conference for Promoting Disaster Risk Reduction. It is expected to be an opportunity to share new networking and knowledge sharing models with all citizens of Japan.
