International conference on critical infrastructure protection and resilience (ICCR) 2008

Organizer(s) Swiss Federal Office for Civil Protection
Date
-

The conference motto for the ICCR 2008 is: expanding the concept of CIP from protection to resilience.

The ICCR 2008 will address various CIP issues and attract participants from all over the world. We expect more than 150 participants from 50 countries. The ICCR is an associated conference to the IDRC Davos 2008, which takes place on 25-29 August.

The conference will take an integrated, multidisciplinary approach when addressing the different aspects of CIP and resilience. It particularly makes the point that it does not suffice to physically protect critical infrastructures, but that a holistic approach including an integrated risk management cycle and risk governance is necessary by specifically including measures that increase the systemic and social resilience.

The conference committee has selected high quality presentations that particularly focus on new methodological and theoretical approaches, lessons learned, case studies or best practice examples.

The ICCR starts on the same day as the IDRC holds its CIP day (August 26). The ICCR will be opened by a welcome address by Willi Scholl, Director of the Federal Office for Civil Protection.

On the first day, two focal sessions are planned on „Integrated Risk Management in a CIP Context“ and „From Protection to Resilience.“ The first day ends with the „Summary of the CIP Day,“ a plenary session where there will also be reports from the other parallel sessions of the IDRC, and an outlook on the second day.

The second day opens with a focal session on From Defining Critical Sectors to Establishing Criticality Criteria.“ As the IDRC also stresses he importance of public-private partnerships a special session is dedicated to “PPP: Concepts and Applications.” Before the concluding high-level roundtable a session on “Planning and Disaster Response” will be held.
