Mission
KEIDANREN (Japan Business Federation) is a comprehensive economic organization with a membership comprised of 1,309 representative companies of Japan, 112 nationwide industrial associations and 47 regional economic organizations (as of July 1, 2014).
Keidanren's mission as a comprehensive economic organization is to draw upon the vitality of corporations, individuals and local communities to support corporate activities which contribute to the self-sustaining development of the Japanese economy and improvement in the quality of life for the Japanese people.
Keidanren established Committee on Risk Management and Committee on National Resilience to deepen its commitment to disaster prevention and reduction. Toward more resilient society, Keidanren has encouraged its members to prepare against disaster at ordinary times and taken strong initiatives with government through many proposals etc.
Support PSP activites to promote all Five Essentials for Business in Disaster Risk Reduction:
1. Promote and develop public-private partnerships for disaster risk reduction to analyze the root causes of continued non-resilient activity.
2. Leverage sectoral private sector expertise and strengths to advance disaster risk reduction and mitigation activities, including enhanced resilience and effective response.
3. Foster a collaborative exchange and dissemination of data: Share information on assessment, monitoring, prediction, forecasting and early warning purposes and action between the public and private sectors.
4. Support national and local risk assessments and socio-economic cost-benefit analyses and capacity-building, and demonstrate opportunities where resilience building and disaster risk reduction is a sound economic strategy, with attractive returns and competitive advantages.
5. Support the development and strengthening of national and local laws, regulations, policies and programmes that enhance disaster risk reduction and improve resilience.
Keidanren takes part in drafting national and local laws and programs that enhance disaster risk reduction and improve resilience as a member of Central Disaster Reduction Council.
Keidanren contributes to strengthening national and local resilience by improving cooperation regarding BCP and BCM in three categories "Cooperation among companies constituting supply chain," "Cooperation within district," and "Cooperation within industry."
Risk communication between the government and the private sector will be improved to raise the awareness of disaster prevention. To this end, Keidanren and the government make effort to develop integrated information platform which allows the government and the private sector to share information on a real-time basis.
Keidanren members possess many technology, product and service oriented to disaster prevention and reduction. Keidanren supports development and improvement of such technology etc. and plans to diffuse them.
Keidanren and Government of Japan send out information on disaster prevention know-how etc. developed in Japan to the international community.
Keidanren suggests to Government of Japan that the development and improvement of infrastructure should be prioritized and focused on crucial issues by utilizing a public-private partnership (PPP) and a private finance initiative (PFI).
Keidanren and Government of Japan enhances the effectiveness of Business Continuity Plan(BCP)/Business Continuity Management(BCM) in preparation for wide-range and massive natural disasters.
Keidanren continues to argue with Government of Japan about promotion deregulation in terms of disaster prevention and reduction.

And Keidanren asks the government to design an incentive scheme for companies' disaster prevention measures etc. adequately.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
