Summary of the survey on corporate philanthropic activities in fiscal 2013
This document provides a summary of a survey carried out on trends in corporate philanthropic activities among Keidanren's members during the fiscal year 2013. It also contains results of a survey on activities related to reconstruction after the Great East Japan Earthquake during the same fiscal year.
The survey looked at the status of the initiatives of individual companies to assist in the process of reconstruction following the disaster. The findings revealed that more than 70 percent of the 376 companies surveyed were engaged in some kind of work to assist the disaster-stricken areas, showing that most companies continued to stand alongside the disaster-stricken areas and to offer ongoing assistance. The authors maintain that this indicates that corporations are trying to contribute in some way to the restoration of the livelihoods of the people living in the disaster-stricken areas. The amount of expenditure for corporate philanthropic activities averaged ¥482 million per company in fiscal 2013, representing a rise of 8.1 percent over the previous fiscal year and marking a return to levels before the Lehman crisis and exceeded the figure for the previous fiscal year, even excluding spending for activities related to the Great East Japan Earthquake.
The survey is part of a series conducted annually by the Keidanren Committee on Corporate Philanthropy and the 1% (One-Percent) Club among their member companies since 1991.
