This study points at the resourcefulness and resilience of older people that were affected by the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami. It shows the importance of emergency preparedness at the personal, community and institutional level. Finally, it makes recommendations that cover evacuation, evacuation centres, temporary accommodation and recovery and rehabilitation.
