Build Change Needs Assessment and Post-Disaster Reconnaissance Report

This report details damage and needs in the wake of the February 6, 2023, earthquakes in southeastern Türkiye. Conducted by Build Change, the report outlines the destruction of over 280,000 buildings, affecting millions. It highlights the urgent need for shelter and the long-term priorities for recovery including enhancing building resilience and integrating local cultural practices and existing policies into the recovery efforts. 

Key findings from the report emphasize the widespread devastation and its socio-economic impact, including the exacerbation of vulnerabilities for non-collapsed buildings and the displacement of communities. The analysis covered the damage to residential and educational buildings, identified the reasons behind the structural failures, and gathered insights into local construction practices and materials. The report proposes a series of focused interventions aimed at strengthening community resilience, such as promoting public awareness of building assessments, and encouraging local compliance with improved construction practices.
