The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Report on the biennium 2022-2023 highlights the significant contributions of the Regional Revolving Funds (RRFs) in rebuilding and strengthening public health in the Americas post-pandemic. The RRFs, which include the Revolving Fund for Access to Vaccines and the Strategic Fund for Public Health Supplies, enabled timely and equitable access to quality vaccines, essential medicines, and public health supplies. During this period, the Funds distributed 467 million vaccine doses, 284 million injection devices, and other critical health supplies, reaching 130 million people and contributing to the combat against infectious diseases.
.
Key achievements include Belize's successful malaria elimination, supported by the PAHO Strategic Fund, which ensured timely procurement of malaria commodities and maintained zero indigenous malaria cases despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The Funds also played a crucial role in achieving the 95-95-95 HIV targets by providing affordable antiretroviral (ARV) treatments, reducing the cost of first-line HIV treatments by 40%, and facilitating the adoption of new ARV medicines. Additionally, the Funds responded effectively to the mpox emergency by securing vaccines from a single source supplier and improved influenza vaccine lead times and cold chain infrastructure in the Caribbean.
.
The report also emphasizes digital advancements, such as the introduction of the Member State Portal, which streamlined demand consolidation and enhanced PAHO’s ability to respond quickly to public health needs. These efforts reflect PAHO’s commitment to building a healthier and more resilient Region through innovative health solutions and technical cooperation. The Funds' initiatives have been instrumental in reducing health inequities, improving access to essential health supplies, and enhancing the overall health outcomes in the Americas.
