IDA at work: disaster risk management - managing natural hazards, reducing risks to development

This document describes the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) support to disaster risk management, including major financing for post-disaster recovery, investments in preventing and mitigating disaster impacts and analytical work for improving disaster risk management. Its aim is to support effective recovery, and to make disaster risk reduction an integral part of development.

The document features three case studies: (i) Haiti: national disaster risk management system weathers storms to save lives; (ii) Recovering from the tsunami in Sri Lanka; and (iii) Flood protection transforms lives in Yemen.
