Integrated Resilient Recovery and Rehabilitation: Addressing Monsoon Floods - Shelter in Focus

Source
Islamic Relief Worldwide

In the aftermath of the 2022 monsoon floods, Islamic Relief Pakistan (IRP) implemented a comprehensive and technical approach to shelter construction, prioritizing active community involvement. This strategy integrates technical mason training programs, meticulous supervision throughout design and construction, provision of construction materials, and conditional cash grants.

IRP’s initiative includes on-site technical mason training programs within affected communities, equipping locals with skills for constructing disaster-resilient shelters. This ensures a sustainable impact beyond immediate recovery, enhancing community expertise.

In essence, IRP’s community-centric and technical framework empowers communities with skills, resources, and ownership for sustainable recovery. It transcends physical rebuilding, creating shelters that stand resilient against future adversities.
