Rebuilding lives: ERRA newsletter, special edition, 8 October 2001

Source
Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority

This special issue of the quarterly ERRA newsletter focuses on the major earthquake that struck northern Pakistan on October 8, 2005. It describes the response to the disaster, followed by the establishment of the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA), which was granted a UN Sasakawa Award certificate of distinction in 2011.

Building on the work done during the relief and recovery phase, the newsletter documents the reconstruction and rehabilitation projects undertaken in the earthquake affected area, complemented by cross cutting interventions in disaster risk reduction, environmental safeguards and gender mainstreaming. The issue further describes some other of ERRA's programmes in the following sectors: housing; health; water and sanitation; education; urban development; governance; telecommunication, transport and power; and socio-economic rehabilitation initiatives.
