This report presents a post-disaster needs assessment conducted after the floods and landslides that occurred in Serbia at the end of May 2014. It considers the repair, reconstruction, expansion and improvement of floods control works as well as the improved disposal of waste from mining and other productive activities as essential to risk reduction. It calls for improvement of floods forecasting systems to reduce disaster risks and recommends a regional basis approach through cooperation with neighbouring countries and obtain economies of scale.

The overall report estimates disaster effects – damages and losses – and impacts as well as the financial requirements to undertake recovery and reconstruction. It considers more than 14 sectors of social and economic activity and cross-cutting issues, including: agriculture, manufacturing, trade, tourism, mining and energy, housing, health, education, culture, transport, communications, water and sanitation, environment and governance.
