About

The Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR) Spotlight Series is a quarterly webinar series showcasing emerging knowledge, research and issues in disaster risk reduction and resilience. As risks become increasingly systemic and complex, the disaster resilience sector continues to evolve in response to new challenges.

Delivered in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency, the Spotlight Series provides a forum for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to engage with emerging topics and issues that often receive limited attention. The series aims to support practitioners in building knowledge and skills, and in identifying sound evidence to inform effective planning and practice.

This webinar explores the long-term impacts of disasters and climate extremes on education outcomes. Disasters can disrupt learning long after immediate impacts have passed, with consequences for individuals, communities and society. Speakers will draw on evidence from bushfires, COVID-19 and extreme heat to highlight the systemic and long-term effects of disasters on learning and education systems.

The session will support practitioners to broaden their understanding of disaster impacts and consider education outcomes as an important component of long-term resilience and recovery planning.
