Disaster Risk Reduction in Action: Live Nepal Case Study
This spring, two devastating earthquakes struck Nepal, killing over 8,600 people and leaving at least two million Nepalis homeless. Did years of disaster risk reduction (DRR) efforts prevent further loss and destruction? And can using DRR concepts help rebuild Nepal to better withstand future disasters?
Through the lens of the Nepal earthquakes, this event will launch the revised Good Practice Review 9 on Disaster Risk Reduction, a guide for humanitarian and development practitioners.
With panels in both London and Kathmandu, speakers will examine not only the immediate response to the 2015 earthquakes but also long-term issues of preparedness, conflict and governance.
Panel:
- Wendy Fenton – Humanitarian Practice Network Coordinator
- Jamie McGoldrick – UN Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative, Nepal (via videolink)
- John Twigg – Senior Research Associate, Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, University College London (UCL)
Additional speakers to be announced
Registration for the event is on the event website.
This event will also be streamed live online.
