GLOBALCON conference and expo: Post Hurricane Sandy - Exploring energy efficiency, economic recovery and rebuilding efforts

Format

Not long ago, Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc on the Northeast, causing $36.9 billion in damages in New Jersey alone. It is projected that climate change will bring an increased number of these superstorms to the Northeast, which, coupled with sea level rise, have the potential to damage critical infrastructure that is not equipped to handle such storms. This means that climate adaptation and mitigation will be key to the future of the Northeast. In the year since the storm, the Department of Energy (DOE) has continued investment in grid modernization to improve outage management capabilities that reduce outage, improve restoration times, and protect and strengthen critical energy infrastructure. DOE is also taking further action to protect the region's energy infrastructure by creating an integrated resilience program that leverages area professionals' expertise in emergency response, risk assessment and longer-term vulnerabilities management. Through federal, state, and local partnerships, developing a more modern energy infrastructure, and stronger, more resilient communities in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, these areas will be better poised to face and recover from future storms. The 25th GLOBALCON Conference & Expo, to be held April 9-10th at the Atlantic City Convention Center, is the one place where decision makers from business, industry and government can get up to speed on the rebuilding effort, along with energy infrastructure changes taking place in its wake. The "Rebuilding Efforts" conference track covers the important topic of how facility managers can minimize damage to building systems while continuing to operate during emergencies.

The GLOBALCON conference program is full of the region's top experts in the changing energy landscape. The Opening Session will feature Joseph Fiordaliso, Commissioner of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities; Matthew Swibel, Corporate Sustainability Director of Lockheed Martin; and Kathleen Ellis, Chief Operating Officer of New Jersey Natural Gas. Conference track topics include: Energy Policy & Climate Change, Benchmarking & High Performance Buildings, Rebuilding Efforts, and CHP & Renewable Energy.
