High Level Seminar on Water and post-COVID recovery, in the framework of the V InterCODIA Meeting

Organizer(s) United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - Headquarters
Date
Event Description:

Although the impact of COVID-19 has affected all kind of activities worldwide, the water resources sector has been one of the most challenged by the pandemic. In response to the challenges that this emergency has raised at the regional level, the UNESCO Intergovernmental Hydrological Program and CODIA organized a series of events related to the monitoring of COVID-19 and its impacts.

In this context, it is worth highlighting the role of the national Recovery Plans launched after the COVID19 crisis, which focus on implementing a set of investments and reforms to support economic recovery after the health crisis in the short term, and at the same time, achieve a structural transformation for a more sustainable and resilient development in the medium and long term. In terms of water, the Recovery Plans are essential support for the financing of actions such as purification, sanitation and reuse of water, the restoration of rivers or the digital transformation of water control systems. Giving continuity to this line of work, the High-Level Seminar Water and post-COVID recovery will be a space for dialogue to better understand and analyze the situation of water management after the changes produced by the pandemic, as well as to reflect on the needs and the measures to adopt in the future.

The seminar is structured in two sessions:

Session 1: Recovery Plans and sustainable investments in the Post-COVID era (morning).

Session 2: Lessons learned in times of COVID-19 to guarantee the human right to water and sanitation (afternoon).
