Mission
Arup International Development partners with development and humanitarian organisations, to help strengthen the impact of their work. We help them plan, innovate and evaluate to make best use of their resources in order to combat poverty and vulnerability, and increase wellbeing and resilience in the developing world.
A not-for-profit business within Arup – a globally recognised leader in the built environment and across industry – we make this expertise and knowledge accessible, and affordable, to the development sector. We are a core team of 12, based in the UK, Thailand and Australia, able to draw on the unique breadth and depth of skills of over 11,000 people, based in 38 countries.
We provide strategic advice, technical expertise, and assessment and evaluation, in areas including community and urban resilience; disaster response and reconstruction; sustainable buildings and infrastructure; water, energy, education and healthcare. We believe a strong collaborative approach is fundamental to solving complex problems and delivering real change. We form long-standing relationships with many of our partners and actively share knowledge and lessons learned, for the benefit of all.
We have completed over 35 projects in more than 25 countries for many organisations in the development sector, from the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), to the Rockefeller Foundation and UN and its various agencies.

* Community resilience study with the IFRC, undertaking desk-based and fieldwork research to develop characteristics of a safe and resilient community, and the key determinants of a successful community-based disaster risk reduction programme. (Asia, Latin America & The Caribbean, Dry regions in Africa)
* Integrated programming study with the Danish Red Cross, evaluating integrated programmes and developing guidance for best practice and ensuring that they contribute towards building community resilience. (South Asia, South Africa and West Africa)
* Long-term partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation to establish and support the Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN). (South East Asia)
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
