The current mission of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) focuses on the observation, monitoring and understanding of geophysical phenomena in both the fluid and solid components of our planet. INGV is in charge of the surveillance of the seismicity and volcanic activity through state-of-the-art instrumental network and, in its activities, it gives particular attention to the scientific production. The combination of experimental and theoretical studies is the main trait of INGV and one of the main reasons of its success.
President: Prof. Stefano Gresta
INGV operates in close collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Instruction, University and Research (MIUR) and has priority agreements with the Civil Protection Department (DPC) and with other authorities in charge of managing the emergencies, both on a national scale and on a local scale.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
