Agricultural War Losses Review Ukraine, Rapid Loss Assessment (9th of June, 2022)
After three months of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the damage toll to Ukraine’s agriculture reached a staggering $4.3 billion, which accounts for nearly 15% of its capital stock. This immense loss has significant implications for the country’s economy and food security.
The Agricultural War Losses Review aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of the impact of the war on Ukrainian agriculture. While damages primarily reflect the destruction of tangible assets and inventories, losses go beyond that. They estimate the foregone revenue due to lower quantities of goods produced and additional costs borne by producers because of the war. In other words, losses represent the difference between actual revenues and the revenues that could have been realized had there been no Russian invasion of Ukraine.
