Discussion paper of the project:

This publication summarizes the outcomes of a UNESCAP initiative which intended to promote regional partnerships and enhance replicability of good practices conducted in South-East Asia regarding the rehabilitation and reconstruction processes following the tsunami disaster of 26 December 2004, as well as the promotion of sustainable and coordinated approaches to reduce the impact of the tsunami disaster and enhance the resilience to potential future natural hazards among vulnerable communities. It also presents comparative analyses of project outcomes and integration of key recommendations. Moreover, it intends to facilitate the adoption of local experiences elsewhere in the region and to promote meaningful partnerships.
