Since 2012, the Reconstruction Agency of Japan has brought attention to various challenges experienced by companies and organizations in the three prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima following the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.

In 2019, the Reconstruction Agency developed a compilation of case studies on the challenges faced by business operators in the disaster area into a report titled "9 Years Since the Great East Japan Earthquake - For a Sustainable Future".
