Disaster, damage, loss and needs assessment: training guidelines

Publication Year

Number of pages

Prepared for the Government of Bangladesh by the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery:

This document is aimed at mainstreaming the methodology for disaster damage and loss assessment (DaLA). It provides indispensable reference material for training programs to build institutional capacity for damage and loss assessments at the national, regional and local levels as well as for the critical sectors that generally experience extensive damage and losses.

The document is intended to help establish and institutionalize a training programme using the Damage and Loss Assessment (DaLa) methodology, particularly in Bangladesh, given that the frequency and intensity of natural disasters, such as floods and cyclones that typically have devastating impact on the national economy and the livelihoods of poor households, especially in the rural areas appears to have increased.
