This flyer provides information about the most important parts of this IDRM approach. It elaborates on the different phases of IDRM, the target groups and actors involved as well as on common types of insurance schemes. Such an Integrated Disaster Risk Management (IDRM) approach was piloted within the project "Developing Risk Management Approaches for Climate Risks" by the Strategic Partnership between the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Allianz Reinsurance in Ghana and Morocco.

Traditionally, Disaster Risk Management (DRM) approaches focused on the following phases: "Prevention", "Preparedness", "Response", and "Recovery". However, not all risks can be entirely avoided through the implementation of these phases. The traditional DRM approach was therefore missing an important phase: "Retention and Transfer". This phase addresses the issue that, even when all necessary steps have been taken to reduce risk, some amount of residual risk remains. Integrated Disaster Risk Management (IDRM) takes this into account.
