This handbook demonstrates how to combat natural disasters in tourist areas and mitigate their impacts. It guides the reader through disaster onset to post-disaster reconstruction and the relaunching of a tourist destination. It considers hazards such as: (i) tropical cyclones and associated storm surges; (ii) flooding, including coastal flooding, estuarine, and river flooding; (iii) earthquakes; and (iv) avalanches. It also provides guidance: (v) on emergency preparations and post-disaster relaunching; (vi) for resort managers; (vii) for tourists; (viii) for family; (ix) on marketing and press relations associated with relaunching tourism after a disaster; and (x) through a sample damage assessment report.
