This guide provides an overview of selected generally accepted practices and emerging new practices associated with managing disruptions and used variously within Australasia, USA and UK, which include: business continuity planning, disaster recovery planning, emergency management and business resilience, among others.

The guide is divided in ten chapters: (i) business continuity management (BCM); (ii) establishing a framework and managing the program; (iii) assessing risks and developing disruption scenarios; (iv) conducting the business impact analysis; (v) developing BCM strategies - reaction to an incident; (vi) assessing and collating resources requirements; (vii) writing the plan - guiding principles; (viii) developing the communications strategy; (ix) maintenance of BCM and (x) activation and deployment.

The structure of the guide is based on Standards Australia Business Continuity Management Handbook HB 221:2004. Much of the information presented is fully consistent with HB 221. However, the principles of HB 221 have been significantly expanded upon and extensive new explanatory information is provided.
