The impact of the earthquake, and relief and recovery programs on Haitian LGBT people
This briefing paper offers a lens through which the earthquake relief and recovery efforts can be viewed in the context of the protection, enjoyment, and promotion of the human rights of LGBT people. By also considering the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, the 2005 Hurricane Katrina in the U.S. Gulf States, and the 2010 earthquake in Chile, SEROvie and IGLHRC draw comparisons that situate the earthquake in Haiti within the broader context of disasters and emergency responses around the world and their particular impact on LGBT indivudals, families, and communities.
