OCHA annual report 2009
This report tracks, monitors and evaluates achievements against OCHA’s planned activities in preparing for and responding to emergencies. It reports on progress in OCHA’s mission of mobilizing and coordinating effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to: (i) alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; (ii) advocate for the rights of people in need; (iii) promote preparedness and prevention; and (iv) facilitate sustainable solutions. It also provides a comprehensive picture of the management of OCHA’s financial resources in the context of its stated requirements for 2009.
It includes effective responses to major emergencies such as cyclone Nargis in Myanmar, massive displacement in Pakistan and the earthquake in Haiti; and analyses the application of lessons learned in some specific cases such as flooding in Mozambique and humanitarian reform in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It also reports on the greater incorporation of disaster risk reduction approaches and strengthened preparedness in humanitarian response in partnership with members of the IASC, UNDP, ISDR and regional organizations and networks.
