Sendai Cooperation Initiative for Disaster Risk Reduction

Source
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan

This document outlines Japan's cooperation for disaster risk reduction (DRR) from 2015 to 2018, through a triple approach combining: (i) non-material assistance, such as human resource development and institutional development, (ii) material assistance centering on the development of quality infrastructure, and (iii) the promotion of global and region-wide cooperation.

The document details: 1) the basic concept of the cooperation; 2) basic policies, building on the experience of the past ten years since the formulation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) with three major points, including investment in disaster risk reduction from the long-term perspective, building back better, and collaboration between the central governments and various actors; and 3) concrete measures for a DRR collaboration amounting to 4 billion US dollars and training of 40 thousand from 2015 to 2018.

The document was released on the occasion of the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.
