Japan: Disaster countermeasures basic act (Act No. 223 of 15 November 1961; revised June 1997)

This act provides for the institutional framework for disaster prevention and management in Japan, including the organization, functioning, powers and responsibilities of central and local disaster prevention councils. The act regulates the elaboration of disaster prevention plans and carrying out of emergency and recovery measures.
