Tropical Storm Sendong, Philippines, Post Disaster Needs Assessment
Tropical Storm (TS) Sendong (International name: Washi) was the second tropical storm that affected Mindanao in 2011 and the nineteenth tropical storm that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the same year.
This PDNA aims to assess the damage, losses, and needs for recovery in key social, infrastructure, and productive sectors as a result of tropical storm Sendong. Sectors that were significantly impacted include housing, power (electricity), and agriculture. The PDNA also examines social and cross-sectoral concerns, such as the disaster’s impact on government institutions and their capacity to respond to emergency situations. Priority needs for post-disaster reconstruction and recovery are identified in this assessment. The final section provides policy and program recommendations for governance and disaster risk reduction.
