Post-Nargis periodic review III
This third Periodic Review, produced from an analysis of data collected between 21 October and 17 November 2009 in worst-affected townships of the Ayeyarwady and Yangon Divisions, is intended to assist those who have been involved in the relief and recovery effort to assess the progress made by the humanitarian community, and the needs of the affected population.
It finds that focused efforts were still needed to help people with their livelihoods to restore household self-reliance, even 18 months after the disaster. It stresses the need to strengthen the effort on the protection of vulnerable people and preparedness in order to assess the state of recovery to go beyond the average, ensure longer-term food consumption to address livelihood needs, respond to the needs of commercial fishing and livestock sub sector, to apply a broader maternal and child health intervention.
