This concept paper links basic education and disaster risk management. In particular, the paper is aimed at personnel in international cooperation engaged in promoting basic education,
emergency/transitional aid, disaster preventive reconstruction and disaster risk management. Issues addressed: (i) the specific lines of action for development cooperation; (ii) two sector projects called, 'Education and Conflict Transformation' and 'Disaster Risk Management;' (iii) a case study of Indonesia and disaster awareness in primary schools; (iv) a case study of Sri Lanka and education for social cohesion, disaster risk management & psycho-social care; and (v) a case study of Mozambique, addressing an introduction of disaster risk management and climate change into local curricula.
