IRP Herald Volume 16 is the knowledge report for the orientation workshop on Pre-Disaster Recovery Planning facilitated by the IRP, the Crime and Disaster Prevention Exhibition, and the First National Conference on Promoting Disaster Risk Reduction.

This summary report aims to provide a knowledge base for policy and decision makers that will allow governments and sponsor organisations to understand the fundamental operations of weather, climate, and hydrological services (together constituting “hydromet” services) and consequently target effective funding, in particular to developing countries.

This paper demonstrates the harmful effects that social expectations of masculinity can have on coping mechanisms and decision-making. Expectations based on gender have broad implications for families and communities and for the ways in which emergency
