International Recovery Platform

This book was produced to mark the end of the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR). It provides solutions to problems associated with disasters, stimulating discussion and improvements in methods of protecting people and property.

In 1987 the City of Los Angeles launched an innovative process of planning for post-earthquake recovery and reconstruction, dealing with both the pre-event and post-event periods and serves as a checklist for Departments.

This paper is a description and analysis of the plan for the rebuilding of Lisbon following the earthquake of 1755.
